“Zenta & Riddick – German Shepherds”
When we first got Zenta (a German shepherd) she was a year old and had absolutely no training! So you can imagine the struggles we went through with this intelligent girl. We thought we had her to a stage were she was obedient and just needed some loose leash walking training as she would almost pull me over lunging at other dog is they got to close on our daily walks. But when we met Paul we discovered she wasn’t as obedient as we thought. But now after four lessons over four weeks she is an obedient, well mannered member of our family who is an absolute pleasure to walk (my mother can now walk her) with reliable commands and is completely oblivious to other dogs.
Then there is Riddick (an entire male German shepherd cross cattle dog) who I have had the pleasure of owning for 6 years. He has always been well behaved and easy to own unless another male dogs looks our way, then he goes into dominant male demon dog mode. Riddick is getting better every day and loves all the work he gets to do now.
We cant thank Paul and Viper enough for all their help and guidance. We will continue their training and We hope to return to Excel dog training when the time comes for some advanced training.
Thanks again
Amanda, Mason, Riddick and Zenta
P.S Riddick says “Sorry Viper”.
“Meeko – the Dominant Rottweiler”
We were having some behavioural issues with our Rottweiler puppy Meeko. She thought that she ruled the roost and we quickly realised that this dominant behaviour was something that we needed to get on top of quickly. We had tried behavioural training when she was a few months old but found we weren’t getting too far. We thought that she had the basic puppy school commands down pat and had tried different techniques from internet research and suggestions from others to try to get on top of the dominant behaviours.
It wasn’t until we were nearly at breaking point with her that Paul was highly recommended to us. Although he was located at Greenbank, we made the decision to travel from the Sunshine Coast to see whether he was able to help. Right from the first session with Paul we noticed an incredible improvement. Although we had the best intentions we realised that we needed direction in her training as much as she did and Paul delivered this in a supportive and professional manner. He was very flexible with our lesson times and was happy to fit sessions in around our busy schedule. It was quickly obvious that Paul was not in this industry for money, but rather had a genuine care for dogs and in achieving great outcomes.
We started giving her commands that were clear and easily understood and she started to change into a completely different dog that showed us a much higher level of respect. We made sure that the training we delivered to her was consistent and rewarding and she quickly grew to love it! We were so happy with her progress that we were happy to make the two hour commute to Greenbank to ensure that she was getting nothing but the best! She became highly motivated and refrained from falling back into her old naughty habits of lead pulling on walks, chasing bikes, and the occasional growl/snap at us.
We would highly recommend Paul to anyone who is after any spectrum of training from basic obedience to advanced commands as well as dealing with dominant or aggressive behaviour. Excel Dog training provided support for us 24/7 and helped us to shape a well-behaved, motivated and happy Rottweiler! Thanks again for your dedication and hard work, we are very grateful”.

“Bully – the deaf Miniature Bull Terrier”
We took our new pup Bully, a miniature bull-terrier, to Paul at Excel Dog Training. As Bully is deaf, we knew we needed to have quality instruction on how to best interact and train our dog. Paul was confident in what he taught us and Bully responded immediately. He was upfront in what we could achieve if we committed to working with our dog. Paul’s love of dogs and his knowledge of training techniques, with hearing or deaf dogs, is very apparent. With Paul’s assistance, we now feel that Bully will actively respond to commands in a range of situations.
Thank you again Paul,
Benson & Melissa
“Max – the Aggressive Rottweiler”
When my daughter first got Max (rottwelleir) I said you need to train him as he could turn in a dangerous dog. She shifted home 18months later. Within weeks of shifting in, he aggressively went my husband twice and had him set. I then rang 3 trainers and a security firm to see what we could do. Two trainers said bring him along to a group of dogs and we’ll train him. One trainer said it was too late and we would have to put him down. The problem was even when walking he was very uncontrollable and strong, in essence he did whatever he wanted to do. When we spoke to Paul, it was one on one, no going outside the gate till he was trained. We were in charge and the difference in Max is amazing. My husband actually said the other day he loved Max. Paul has given us the tools and confidence to enjoy Max.

“Marley – Rescued Puppy”
We rescued Marley from the RSPCA, They said he was 20-22kg, now 35-37kg, Poor bugger. Pretty sad that someone could do that when there are options available.
A heartfelt thank you for your dedication and unique talent with dogs. We are very happy with what has been achieved so far and will come back for more when we (humans) catch up.
I have had a number of dogs over the years (including a male Rotti years ago) but Marley’s nature is perfect for us.
Kind Regards,
Chris and Jo
“Simba – the Rotty Pup”
Thanks for training Simba.
We have been using the techniques you demonstrated and taught her and she now is a better mannered and well trained dog.
Before we were getting frustrated with her not listening and we were having difficulty with her pulling on the lead, jumping up, anxious of passing other dogs or people.
She is truly a different dog and this is best investment I have given her.
Even my family and friends have commented on her behaviour. She is now purely a pleasure to have in our lives. Thank you again.
Cheers

“Odin the Rottweiler”
Odin is a purebred stumpy tail Rottweiler. ..also my friend, protector and loyal pet.
He had recieved puppy training in the first few months of his life and was well behaved until he reached 11 months old, when his ‘manhood’ set in and a growth spurt saw him become larger than our 11 year old female Ridgeback Mastiff.
We then had issues with him challenging our authority and as any pup maturing, pushing boundaries.
This resulted in defiance of commands, jumping up for attention and challenging, anxious daily walks.
As he got bigger he became stronger and more unable to control.
We had a 16 month old, close to 50kg Rottie with the attitude of a mischievous teenager.
Paul had been highly recommend for what my husband and I call “boot camp” for Odin. A two week stay at Pauls training facility that provided a ‘re-set’ button for the training we had established with Odin as a pup, then training that would put him on the right path to become an obediant adult dog.
When we picked up Odin after “boot camp”, previous commands had been reestablished and new commands had been set in place that really impressed.
We were given an 1.5 hour lesson with Odin and Paul that gave us the tools to continue with his training at home, that surprisingly, is a very easy schedule that we can achieve in our suburban back yard and everyday life.
Since being back at home we have noticed a change in all areas of his obedience. Not only commands, but Odin has a new respect for our space and home.
Walking Odin would have been a challenge for anyone before with his strength, but was particularly challenging for myself as I have MS… now our walks together are a fun event that I can only see becoming better and better as Odin matures.
Odin still has his personality and cheeky demeanor that we love, but is much more controllable and now a pleasure to live with.
I recommend Paul’s services to all that are having obedience issues with their dogs or wish to see their dog step up to their next level of training.
Cheers, Shelley
